Lavender is used in many products for personal care: soaps, creams, cologne and more refined essences. This plant is also commonly used to prepare homeopathic remedies, and because of its painkilling and soothing virtues, it is a fundamental scent in aromatherapy.

Lavender has many properties: it is aromatic, purifying, antiseptic, balsamic, sedative, relaxant and anti-inflammatory. And it is even digestive, antirheumatic and cicatrizing.

Many different things which are an essential part of rural tradition, including that of the countryside of Tuscany, are made out of lavender. Teas, extracts and essences to drink or great products for body care, such as lavages and compresses, lotions and oils and, of course, lavender water, which was present in every girl's trousseau.

Lavender-based natural products that you can prepare at home

Lavender baths are considered one of the best methods to relax and tone up the body. Boil 50gr of lavender flowers or spikes in a litre of water for approx. 10 minutes, and then filter and pour the infusion in bath water. If, on the other hand, you have blooming lavender, the best thing to do is to prepare a little bouquet of lavender and leave it in the water before taking your relaxing bath.

Lavender water is acknowledged as one of the best natural remedies to tone skin up. In the past, lavender flowers were picked and used to prepare the precious lotion. It is still very easy to prepare lavender water. Just leave the lavender flowers to macerate in 1lt of pure alcohol for 15 days and then filter it into glass bottles. Lavender water is perfect after a bath or shower to massage one's skin, which becomes immediately soft and scented.
Besides, lavender water is excellent to keep mosquitoes away!

Lavender is also used to prepare excellent recipes. Bees love lavender, and lavender honey is one of the best. It is very common in France. In Tuscany, however, lavender nectar is mixed with other flowers' nectars, as lavender fields are not as widespread as in Provence and in Southern France.
